Politics and Religion
Some say that politics and religion don't mix. In some families neither are allowed to be discussed. However, if one is living a life consistent with his beliefs, he will be involved in politics and in his religion. He will share and promote his beliefs in religion and politics within his family because he loves his family.
If you believe that your political party is the best one for the country, share your points of view, engage others! Find out what your party officially supports--read the party platform. See what it really says. You may be surprised at what is and isn't there! If your party's ideas don't appeal to you or do not stand up to rational, honest discussion and debate, maybe you are in the wrong party. Furthermore, if you believe your political party follows and supports the Constitution, then engage others in the study of it. See what it really says. You may be surprised at what is and isn't in there!
Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
In short, if one does not live by and share his faith nor promote his political points of view through actions and words, he doesn't really believe deeply in those values.
If you believe that your religious group is the right one, share your faith, engage others! If you think any religion is "okay," you really don't understand what you think you believe in. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6) Either Jesus is the only way to the Father (and worthy of our devotion to his cause), or he was mistaken (and not worth a minute of our time). Furthermore, if you believe your Christian group follows and teaches the Bible, then engage others in the study of the Bible. See what it really says. You may be surprised at what is and isn't in there!
In either politics or religion, neutrality is not really an option. In regard to politics, Plato said, "The punishment of wise men who refuse to take part in the government is to live under the government of worse men." If we do not express our ideas and vote accordingly, we are destined to live by someone else's. In regard to religion, Jesus said, "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters." (Matthew 12:30)
